Terrific depth for the dollar here in this Rioja that is just peaking. Charming with just a touch of brett, savory...

A Rioja that wears its alcohol and emotions on its sleeve. Robust attack, cranky acidity and lashing tannin. A cup of...

Fruit, wood and spice on the nose. On the palate there's something almost bordeaux about this. Old-world dry without being austere. Medium-full bodied. Tangy berry flavours with wood, herbs and some earthiness. Quite dry but tannins in balance.

An honest Rioja with enough complexity to make it worth the price.

Enjoyed this one just as much as the '01. Beautiful nose displaying notes of raspberry, cherry, vanilla, and cinnamon along with some earthy and floral notes. This wine is medium bodied with quite high acidity and medium-low tannins. This is a very refreshing wine with a very long finish. Excellent example of what aged Rioja can be at an amazing price. Tasted January 2013.

Definitely an ultra traditional style of Grand Reserva here with aromas of wild strawberry, red cherry, tobacco, old church wood, vanilla and cinnamon spice. On the palate, medium bodied, soft texture, dusty tannins and high acid. A very good length and smooth on the finish with a slightly tart flavour. This wine is better served with food and slightly chilled to improve the fruit flavours. This Grand Reserva is a blend of 80% Tempranillo, 16% Grenache, 2% Mazuelo and 2% Graciano, aging took place in American white oak for 36 months with alcohol coming in at 13.5%. Enjoyable

Some positive qualities overshadowed by the brett. Bought 2 of these; 1 was more than enough!

The pro's are split on this one, and I'm leaning more towards Mr. Szabo's interpretation of this gran reserva rioja. Pretty cherry colour with a slight garnet hint at the edges. Floral nose. Light to medium body. Raspberry, cherry and vanilla on the palate, but the brett comes through too much. There's an astringent leathery quality here and a not overly long finish.
