This is a surprisingly flavoursome and dense young tempranillo based red with 10 months ageing in American oak. There is not a lot of finesse but it is actually quite ripe and generous with some dates, char and meaty character. The alcohol level is fairly high, there is firm acidity and tannin. Very good length. I would age it a couple of years. Good flavour depth for the money. Score: 85 (David Lawrason, WineAlign.com, Feb 2013)Critic Reviews (4)

Dark garnet in colour with a medium+ intense nose.
Quality is very good for a wine under $15
Positives: This wine features cedar, sandalwood, dark cherry, plums, dates, licorice stick, black tea, leather, sage and burlap. Medium body and tannins with good acidity and a fairly long length.
Negatives: None
Interesting Point: LCBO usually has this wine on sale a couple times a year.
Drink now or over the next year on its own or pair it with Spanish Salami.

Very bretty, this old-school Rioja, with enticing leather saddle, barnyard, and earthy notes making for an intriguing, complex nose; hardly sophisticated, but in a good way, and perhaps lacking in fruit for balance, but pleasantly savoury and certainly worth lingering over given its rustic charms; excellent value. Tasted August 2014.
Summer patio with burgers.
