Rivera Violante Nero Di Troia 2009, Doc Castel Del Monte
Other Red
Puglia, Italy

Deep ruby with aromas of cherry, plum, spice, herbs, and violets. Easy-drinking with substantial fruit, structure, and balance. The tannins have a bit of grip but do not overshadow the other elements. Very tasty. Easygoing enough to be enjoyed on its own, this versatile wine will pair with a steak-and-mushroom dish, or with a charcuterie platter. (VINTAGES panel, Oct. 2012)Critic Reviews (1)

No idea why the Vintages notes says "easy-drinking". This is a firm, well-structured red, with ripe fruit, herbs and spice. Very fine depth and complexity for $15. Nice with for a range of meats. Tasted June 2013.
This wine has a beautiful, vibrant colour. It is certainly fruit forward with a firm tannic backbone. Lively, bordering on tart, young red fruit with plenty of violet to boot. Certainly a modern style.
I would recommend serving slightly chilled for a good sipper, or pair with salty foods.
Tasted October 2013.
