Drinking very nicely now. Petalos is consistently good and the 2011 continues that tradition. This Mencia is dry with dark fruit (plum, blueberry, prune), spice, savoury notes, and with good tannic structure but softening. It has balanced acidity and excellent length. High alcohol and moderate oak (older French barrels) are well integrated. Nice quaff and food friendly. Dec. 2015.
This one had me won over the moment it greeted me with a captivating aroma of plums, and it's beautiful purple colour. From there on, it just kept getting better, lovely mencia, balanced tannins and acidity, and great length. Another winner from this reliable Bierzo corner of Spain.
