This is a very impressive merlot - from the best Niagara vintage to date from this grape. There is a sense of balance...
Pure, ripe red berries dusted by a dried and pungent mulling spice. Dried flowers round out this easy going if not...
This is a fruity-savoury-earthy, wood influenced merlot in the modern style, that astonishes at 12.3% declared...
Notes of tomato sauce, earth, cherry and pretty herbal notes. Medium-bodied and beginning to show some evolution....

The 2010 Daniel Lenko Old Vines Merlot that was sourced from one of the oldest Merlot plantings in Niagara dating back to 1974, were cropped to yield 2 tons/acre to increase its intensity; once fermented, the wine spend 18 months in French and American Oaks 70/30% before bottling. It has intense aromas of blackberry, black cherry, vanilla, oak, clove, toast, leather and eucalyptus on the palate and red currant, black cherry, graphite, oak and vanilla on the palate. It is a medium bodied, extra-dry, fruity to integrated wine; with checked acidity, refined tannins (decant for 30-60 min) and a long, silky, oak influenced finish. This is a sipping wine; cellar for 1-2 years – best 2015 to 2020. My impression: BEAUTIFUL, 90 pts – recommended for its quality. Tasted Nov/13
