Still quite tight and closed on the nose, Masi's '06 Costasera nonetheless shows superb balance and elegance on the...

Solid Amarone at a great price.

Dark purple. Rich nose of raisins, stewed plums, anise, some floral notes and a hint of smoke. Alcohol is pretty high but very well contained in full bodied, ripe, dense, dark fruit and flavours of Christmas cake, vanilla/oak and a touch of espresso. Good acidity and very well balanced tannins. Long finish.

Delicious now but wiil certainly cellar for another decade.

Reliable. That's what this is. Masi has hit the nail right on the head with their amarone in 2006 but then, the Costasera is always good. This is a big wine, full bodied and full throttle - one glass is enough but you'll come back for another. Expect dark fruits, some spice and yes, chocolate - that does it for me every time. Decant well before serving or cellar it for years to come.

This wine took my amarone maidenhead (maidenhood?). Thank you, for being strong, yet gentle. Clearly you are an experienced amarone.

This lightly aromatic, medium bodied Amarone has fruity to integrated notes of cherry, black currant, chocolate and green pepper. The tannins are subtle (decant for 30 min) and the finish is medium. It should be at it’s best sometime in 2011-2013. My impression: NICE. However, I would not buy it again as I consider the price to be too high. I have tried some Ripassos that performed better for under $20. Tasted Mar/10.
