Rosewood Estates Merlot 2010, VQA Niagara Escarpment
Merlot
Ontario, Canada

Although I’m not always convinced that Merlot has a place in Ontario, in ripe years, and when done right, it can be very, very good. This wine ticks all the boxes with dense black fruit, hints of cocoa-mocha, grippy tannins and fresh, balanced acidity. Substantial yet gracious, with a lingering dark fruit finish. Pure pleasure and a great match for braised shorts and grilled vegetables. Drink now to 2015. Score: 91 (Janet Dorozynski, www.WineAlign.com, Feb 2013)Critic Reviews (4)

This merlot exceeded my expectations. It is refined, elegant, smooth, rounded and balanced. Nice fruit with silky tannins and good acidity that comes together in a well co-ordinated package. Excellent length. Just like my wife in a sleek sequined evening gown. Yum! Grip it n' sip it! April 2013.
The 2010 Rosewood Estates Merlot, aged in French Oak for 13 months, is a medium bodied, fruity wine, with intense aromas of raspberry jam, prune, oak, coconut and vanilla. It has refined tannins (decant for 15-30 min) and a long, sweet-vanillin finish. This wine can be enjoyed as a standalone sipper and will compliment food as well; drink now or cellar for 5+ years. My impression: BEAUTIFUL, 90 pts – well priced for $22.00 and hence a recommended buy. Tasted Oct/12.

Sweet core of fruit aromas along with mulberry and hints of cocoa. Bright acidity with raspberry, cocoa on the palate. Tannins are very well-integrated and has a delicious, long finish. Tasted Oct/2012.

There are lots of wonderful tastes here, as said in the Critic Reviews. But, while it improved with time, it never got smooth enough to quite rate a ninety, or really be worth the money. But then, maybe smoothness is more important to me than for others.
