Saperavi

Saperavi is an ancient dark-skinned, pink fleshed (teinturier) grape originally from Georgia where it is the most important grape variety. It also plays an important role in the wines from the former Soviet Republics including Russia, Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus. The wines are very deeply coloured, powerful and robust, with aromas of autumn berries, dark fruit, cassis, spice, chocolate and coffee. Pair with roasted lamb, port skewers, hard cheeses, ragout and oyster mushrooms.
