Zweigelt

the Zweigelt grape was created in Austria in 1922 by Friedrih Zweigelt by crossing St. Laurent with Blaufrankisch. Zweigelt is now also planted in Ontario and British Columbia. The wines are a deep red colour with aromas and flavours of spiced cherry and raspberry, black pepper and chocolate. It can pair well with a number of different dishes, from grilled meat to richer fish. It also makes a great picnic wine!
